According to reports, the Mumbai Traffic Control Room received a bomb threat on Friday via its official WhatsApp number, warning of an attack during Anant Chaturdashi. The message claimed that several vehicles across the city were rigged with human bombs and included a warning of a large explosion involving RDX. This alarming threat coincided with the vibrant celebrations of Ganesh Visarjan in Mumbai.
On Saturday, the final day of the ten-day Ganesh festival, devotees flocked to the streets for the immersion of Lord Ganesh idols, dancing joyfully to the beats of drums and traditional music. Despite light to moderate rain in some areas since morning, crowds emerged from homes and pandals, filling the streets as they carried the idols for immersion. Colorful rangolis adorned the roads along the procession route.
In central Mumbai, the immersion procession began for renowned Ganesh mandals in Lalbagh, including Tejukaya and Ganesh Gully. Amid chants of 'Ganapati Bappa Morya, Pudchya Varshi Lavkar Ya,' the grand idols were transported from the pandals. The famous Lalbaugcha Raja's procession has yet to commence, with final preparations underway before it heads towards Girgaum Chowpatty. Thousands gathered on the streets of Lalbagh and other key routes to bid farewell to their deity.
At the Shroff Building in Lalbagh, a large crowd gathered for the traditional flower shower on the Ganesh idols. Many people had already lined up along both sides of the street, patiently waiting for a glimpse of the idols. The main road leading to Girgaum Chowpatty was also filled with people, as major idols from Fort, Girgaum, Mazgaon, Byculla, Dadar, Matunga, Sion, Chembur, and other areas were set to be immersed.
In Pune, the festivities for Anant Chaturdashi began with the immersion of the first prestigious idol from the Ganesh mandal. Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, along with Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murli Deora and Minister Chandrakant Patil, participated in the Kasba Ganapati procession, which commenced amid the sounds of drums. Pune police had urged mandals to start their processions early to ensure that the entire immersion process concluded on time and did not extend into the next day.
