Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi is set to be a hot property in the January transfer window with Liverpool and four other clubs reportedly interested. The 25-year-old's future has been thrown into uncertainty after a last-minute change of heart from Palace chairman Steve Parish scuppered a £35million deadline-day move to Anfield.
The decision left Guehi furious and even led to manager Oliver Glasner threatening to resign if the club let their star player go without securing a replacement. With Guehi's contract due to expire at the end of June and no plans to sign a new one, the January window will be pivotal for his future. At that point, he will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club.
Liverpool could attempt to negotiate a bargain deal with Palace, who risk losing him for nothing. However, the Reds will face stiff competition for the England international's signature.
Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are all keen on Guehi, according to the Daily Star. City, who allowed Manuel Akanji to join Inter Milan on loan on deadline day, could also offload Nathan Ake before making a move for Guehi.
The aftermath of Guehi's failed move to Liverpool is yet to be seen, with rumours earlier this week suggesting he might relinquish his captaincy at Palace.
England manager Thomas Tuchel has shown unwavering support for him after holding crunch talks prior to Saturday's match against Andorra.
Tuchel stated: "We had a chat with him. He looks absolutely fine. Very impressive on the field. He's the main driver of Palace's success, captain and the leader.
"He's continued this in camp. He handles it with respect and grace and a brilliant attitude."
Guehi was part of the starting line-up in the victory over Andorra and will be aiming to retain his spot in Tuchel's team for next year's World Cup.
Despite not pushing for a transfer, Guehi was interested in the move to Liverpool, who remain the favourites to secure his signature in 2026.
Arne Slot sought to create competition among his first-choice centre-back duo of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. Joe Gomez and new recruit Giovanni Leoni currently provide cover following Jarell Quansah's sale to Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
Liverpool demonstrated their ambition by spending a whopping £450m on new players during the summer transfer window, with Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz being the standout acquisitions.
They have kicked off the season with three consecutive Premier League victories and the prospect of winning titles could be a significant attraction for Guehi.
