Diamonds are considered to be one of the most precious gemstones in the world. It is known for its brilliance hardness and beauty. Besides their value and luxury price tags diamonds are mined/produced in select parts of the world. Have you ever wondered which countries produce the most diamonds? In this article we will look at seven different countries that not only have rich diamond mines but are also recognized for the exceptional gems they produce. In fact these countries are key players in the diamond industry. For several decades Russia has been the largest producer of diamonds in the world. Russia represents about 32% of the worlds diamond supply aggregate. Every year around 37.32 million carats (about 7464 kilograms) of diamonds are produced from Russias mines. The country of Botswana in Africa is known for producing high-quality diamonds. In terms of production Botswana ranks second in the world with about 5018 kilograms of diamonds mined every year. Canada which started producing diamonds in 1998 is now the third-largest producer of diamonds. Canada also has several large diamond mines and produces approximately 3290 kilograms annually. Angola another nation in Africa is also known for its diamonds and produces approximately 9.75 million carats (equivalent to 1950 kilograms) of diamonds each year. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) consists of several major diamond mines which produce roughly 8.35 million carats (or about 1170 kilograms of stones) of diamonds every year. In terms of diamond reserves the DRC is the fifth-largest country in diamonds in the world. Like the DRC the DRC has some of the worlds most considerable diamond mines. The DRC produces almost 8.35 million carats per year or about 1345 kilograms of diamond making it the fifth largest in diamond reserves. South Africa has been classified as the birthplace of modern diamond mining in the range of 5.89 million carats (about 1200 kilograms) of diamonds produced each year. Zimbabwe not only offers stunning views and breathtaking wildlife the country historically has been wealthy in diamonds producing approximately 4.9 million carats (approx 980 kilograms) annually with a recovered value of ₹2670 crore.
