PM modi visit punjab-himachal: PM Narendra Modi will visit Himachal Pradesh and Punjab today. During this time he will conduct air inspection of flood affected areas and review relief and rehabilitation works. According to officials, the Prime Minister will leave Delhi in the afternoon after voting in the Vice-Presidential elections. They will first reach Pathankot Airbase and will conduct an aerial survey of floods and landslide affected areas in Kangra in Himachal Pradesh.
Prime Minister Modi will preside over a high -level meeting with the state officials in Himachal Pradesh and hold talks with the flood affected people. Along with this, he will also meet the personnel of the local teams engaged in NDRF, SDRF and disaster relief work. After reviewing the situation in Himachal Pradesh, PM Modi will conduct an aerial survey of flood affected areas of Punjab at around 3 pm.
After this, he will go to the Tibari Army Station in Gurdaspur around 4:15 pm, where he will meet senior citizens and military officials to assess the situation in the area. At the same time, the Prime Minister in Gurdaspur will also meet flood affected people and will interact with the relief and response teams working in the area.
Punjab is currently facing the most severe floods for the last several decades. According to officials, 46 people have died in this disaster so far. Floods have also caused heavy losses to the state’s agriculture, crops have been destroyed in about 1.75 lakh hectares. The flood situation has arisen due to increased water in the Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers and the rise of small rivers due to heavy rains in the upper catchment areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
At the same time, heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh from June 20 to September 8, cloudburst, sudden floods and landslides have caused major damage. Officials said on Monday that during this period the state suffered a total financial loss of Rs 4,122 crore. According to the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), 370 people died in this disaster. In this, 205 people died in rain - accidents, 43 people in landslides, 17 people due to cloudburst and 9 people floods.
