Actress Manisha Koirala has raised her voice against the violent action on protesters in Nepal and called it a black day for the country. Her reaction came after the deadly violence against Gen Z protesters which broke out following the Nepal government’s ban on social media platforms. This young generation took to the streets in protest.

Manisha Koirala who is of Nepali origin shared a picture of a blood-stained shoe on her social media account along with a message in the Nepali language. The translated post read Today is a black day for Nepal. When the voice of the people anger against corruption and demand for justice are answered with bullets.

At least 20 people lost their lives and over 250 were injured when Nepali security forces opened fire on protesters near Parliament in Kathmandu on Monday. What began as an online protest escalated after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli decided to ban 26 social media platforms a move viewed as an attempt to suppress dissent amid rising allegations of corruption.
Gen Z created uproar in Parliament
The unrest intensified after thousands of young protesters mostly Gen Z stormed into the parliament premises. In retaliation police used batons tear gas and rubber bullets which resulted in violent clashes. As the situation spread nationwide the army was deployed in several cities to restore control. A curfew was enforced in Kathmandu and other major urban centres including Birgunj Bhairahawa Butwal Pokhara Itahari and Damak. With mounting political pressure and public anger Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak resigned taking moral responsibility for the violence.
