A British man is fighting for his life in aTurkish hospital after falling off a wall on a trip with his partner for dental work.

Mark Snelgrove, 40, didn't appreciate the height of the wall and fell backwards, hitting his head on the ground, according to his girlfriend Courtney Lee, 26. The family are now facing massive hospital bills, running into the thousands of pounds, with Mark unable to fly home.

Courtney said the couple were taking a shortcut back to their hotel in Antalya at the time, having been out at a bar for a meal. She said Mark grabbed hold of a metal bar as he jumped, but fell backwards.

Both flew out to Turkey for a holiday and dental work on Tuesday last week, with Mark having implants fitted before the accident. Courtney said Mark was taken unconscious to hospital.

The couple, from Swinton, Salford, have two children together, including a seven week-old baby. They are at home with family as the couple remain in Turkey. They had no holiday insurance, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Mark had a CT scan on his brain. Courtney said: "I am only allowed to see him for 15 minutes a day. Mark is not allowed his phone by the hospital either. The hospital requested 5,000 euros for the ambulance trip and CT scan and are now asking for 15,000 euros to be paid for Mark's treatment.

"The hospital have said Mark is not fit to fly and is in a life-threatening condition due to where the bleeds are on his brain. He needs to stay in hospital or he could die. The hospital bills are going up by thousands each day. The whole family are so scared.

"It is pretty bad. It is life-threatening. He is awake and can speak, but the neurologist said it can be life-threatening. There are two blood clots there and he is not fit to fly home.

"He is going to have a stent through an artery to have a look at what is going on in the brain. But Mark is going to remain here for the foreseeable future. Mark in himself feels that he is fine, but at any minute it could go. You just do not think anything like this is going to happen to you."

A GoFundMe appeal has now been launched to raise money to help to cover Mark's medical treatment and to fly him back home. In it, Courtney said the holiday 'turned for the worst'. Writing on the appeal page, she said: "Mark suffered a terrible accident, which led to him landing on the back of his head with force, which has led to him suffering a bleed on the brain.

"It's stable and it is not actively bleeding, but it is there. Mark's not fit to fly home yet. They have asked for 15,000 Euros to cover his stay from yesterday and today, but that is not including the following days to come. It could take as long as it needs to take. He needs the right care. I know it's a lot to ask for, but Mark needs this right now. He'd do absolutely anything for anyone."
