The Pro powerhouses

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are undoubtedly the flagbearers of this generation.

Both phones are built using aerospace-grade aluminum and feature the new Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and back, offering far better protection against scratches and cracks. Inside, Apple’s new A19 Pro chip delivers the most significant performance jump in years, paired with a vapor chamber cooling system that keeps the phone running smoothly even during gaming or video editing marathons.

The camera system is where the Pro models shine. Apple has fitted them with three 48-megapixel Fusion cameras, including a new telephoto lens capable of 8x optical zoom — the longest ever on an iPhone.

The new Photonic Engine processes images with better colour accuracy and detail, while the 18MP Center Stage front camera automatically adjusts framing for group selfies and video calls. For creators, these devices are essentially mini film studios, supporting ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and even genlock for multi-camera shoots.

Battery life is another strong suit. The Pro Max, with its larger size, delivers the longest playback time Apple has ever offered, lasting up to 39 hours on a single charge, while fast charging promises 50 percent in just 20 minutes with Apple’s new 40W adapter.

  • Design: Aerospace-grade aluminum, unibody build, Ceramic Shield 2 protection.
  • Chip: A19 Pro with 40% better sustained performance, perfect for AAA gaming and video editing.
  • Cooling: First iPhone with a vapor chamber, keeping performance stable.
  • Cameras: Three 48MP Fusion cameras (Main, Ultra Wide, Telephoto), 8x optical zoom at 200mm — the longest on iPhone yet, New Photonic Engine for sharper, more colour-accurate photos, and Center Stage front camera: 18MP, AI-powered framing, 4K HDR video.
  • Video Features: ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock for pro filmmakers.
  • Battery & Charging: Pro Max delivers the best-ever iPhone battery life, 40W fast charging, 50% in 20 minutes.

The everyday upgrade

The regular iPhone 17 isn’t left behind.

It finally gets the smooth 120Hz ProMotion display that was previously reserved for Pro models. The 6.3-inch screen is brighter and more power-efficient, while the new A19 chip makes it much faster than last year’s version.

Its camera system may only feature two lenses, but the 48MP main and 2x telephoto combination, along with the upgraded 18MP front camera, make it a solid option for most users who don’t need the professional-grade features.

  • Display: 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR with 120Hz ProMotion.
  • Chip: Powered by the A19 (non-Pro) chip.
  • Camera: Dual Fusion system — 48MP main lens + 2x telephoto.
  • Front Camera: New 18MP Center Stage selfies, just like the Pro.

iPhone Air: Thinnest yet

The new iPhone Air is Apple’s boldest design statement this year. At just 5.6mm thick, it is the slimmest iPhone ever, yet still manages to pack in the powerful A19 Pro chip and a bright 6.5-inch OLED display with ProMotion support.

The titanium frame and Ceramic Shield protection make it durable, while the eSIM-only design allows room for a bigger battery, which Apple says can handle up to 40 hours of video playback.

Despite its size, the Air features a 48MP Fusion camera, a 12MP telephoto lens, and the same 18MP Center Stage selfie camera as the Pro models.

  • Design: Just 5.6mm thin, titanium frame, Ceramic Shield.
  • Display: 6.5-inch OLED, ProMotion 120Hz, 3000 nits peak brightness.
  • Camera: 48MP Fusion rear + 12MP telephoto + 18MP Center Stage selfie.
  • Performance: A19 Pro chip, vapor chamber cooling.
  • Battery: Up to 40 hours of video playback despite its slim body.
  • Connectivity: eSIM-only worldwide.

Apple Intelligence: Smarter with iOS 26

All four iPhones ship with iOS 26, which brings Apple Intelligence, the company’s new AI platform. It enables real-time translation in text and audio, smart content recognition from screenshots, and call and message screening to cut down distractions.

Importantly, most of these AI features run directly on the device, ensuring privacy while also allowing offline use.
  • Live Translation: Real-time text and audio translation.
  • Visual Intelligence: Take screenshots and instantly search or act on content.
  • Smart Filtering: Screen unwanted calls and messages.
  • Privacy: AI runs on-device for security and can work offline.

This year also marks a major shift for Apple’s India strategy. For the first time, the iPhone 17 is being manufactured at Foxconn’s massive Bengaluru facility, one of the largest production plants in the country. Analysts see this as a big step toward Apple’s long-term goal of making India a global manufacturing hub.
