Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), launched a sharp critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. He stated that the ongoing trade discussions between India and the United States could unlock limitless opportunities for partnership. Kejriwal expressed concern that cotton farmers across the nation are being jeopardized to appease President Trump. This statement from Modi followed Trump's call to eliminate trade barriers between the two nations.
In a post shared on X, Kejriwal questioned the nature of the discussions taking place between India and the US. He asked, "What kind of dialogue is happening? Is it a one-sided conversation? Our farmers, traders, and youth are being put at risk as the Indian market is being fully opened to Americans. If the entire Indian market falls under American control, where will our people go?"
He further remarked that such comments are akin to "surrender" in front of the US. Kejriwal stated, "This kind of capitulation before Trump is not only detrimental to the Indian economy but also an insult to 1.4 billion Indians." He urged the Prime Minister not to yield and to safeguard the dignity of the nation. Kejriwal's remarks came in response to Modi's post on X, where he referred to New Delhi and Washington as "natural partners" and expressed confidence in the progress of the talks. Modi also indicated his eagerness to converse with Trump.
In his post, Modi emphasized that India and the US are close friends and natural partners. He expressed confidence that their trade discussions would pave the way for revealing the vast potential of the India-US partnership. Modi mentioned that their teams are working diligently to expedite these discussions and that he looks forward to engaging with President Trump to ensure a bright and prosperous future for the people of both nations.
