Vice President Election: The election is to be held on Tuesday (9 September) for the new Vice President. There is a direct contest between the ruling NDA alliance candidate CP Radhakrishnan and opposition India coalition joint candidate retired Justice B Sudarshan Reddy. In this election, the existing 781 members of both the Houses of Parliament and the Rajya Sabha will vote. Given the number force and political mathematics, NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan is almost certain to be elected as Vice President.
Voting will be held in the new Parliament House from 10 am to 5 pm and counting of votes will be held from 6 pm. The result is expected to be declared by night. For this election for the post of Vice President, 542 current members of Lok Sabha and 239 members of Rajya Sabha will be able to vote for this election for this election. Thus there are a total of 781 members in the Election Board.
Meanwhile, former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s party Bharat Rashtra Samithi BRS) have decided to stay away from the Vice President’s election. The support of YSRCP will increase the strength of NDA, while BRS (4 Rajya Sabha MPs), BJD (7 Rajya Sabha MP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (1 Lok Sabha and 2 Rajya Sabha MPs) will reduce the number of votes of the electoral college to 767, with the majority figure will be 384.
The Lok Sabha has 293 members of NDA constituents and 134 in Rajya Sabha. Apart from this, the ruling coalition has got the support of four members of the Lok Sabha of YRS Congress and seven members of Rajya Sabha.
