Vice President Election: The election is to be held on Tuesday (9 September) for the new Vice President. There is a direct contest between the ruling NDA alliance candidate CP Radhakrishnan and opposition India coalition joint candidate retired Justice B Sudarshan Reddy. In this election, the existing 781 members of both the Houses of Parliament and the Rajya Sabha will vote. Given the number force and political mathematics, NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan is almost certain to be elected as Vice President.

Voting will be held in the new Parliament House from 10 am to 5 pm and counting of votes will be held from 6 pm. The result is expected to be declared by night. For this election for the post of Vice President, 542 current members of Lok Sabha and 239 members of Rajya Sabha will be able to vote for this election for this election. Thus there are a total of 781 members in the Election Board.

BJD and BRS MP will stay away from voting

Meanwhile, former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s party Bharat Rashtra Samithi BRS) have decided to stay away from the Vice President’s election. His decision can further promote Radhakrishnan’s possibility of victory. BJD and BRS, neither NDA nor part of India alliance. Both parties announced on Monday that their MPs would stay away from voting in this high-profile election.

Owaisi and Jaganmohan’s own bets

At the same time, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has announced to support opposition candidate B Sudarshan Reddy, while former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy’s party YSRCP has supported the NDA candidate. The Shiromani Akali Dal of Punjab has also decided to stay out of the election. He has a total of three MPs.

The BJD currently has seven Rajya Sabha members, and there is no one in the Lok Sabha. In the 2022 Vice Presidential election, Odisha, who was in power in Odisha, supported NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar, who easily defeated opposition candidate Margaret Alva. In the 2024 assembly elections, the BJP evicted the BJD from the power of Odisha. BRS has a total of 4 Rajya Sabha MPs.

What does mathematics say?

The Vice President currently has 781 MPs in the electorate for the election. These include 239 members of the Rajya Sabha and 542 members of the Lok Sabha. The number clearly appears to be bent in favor of the NDA, as the NDA camp has 425 MPs, while the opposition camp has 324 MPs. BJP has 342 members in both houses, while Congress has 126 members. The support of YSRCP will increase the strength of NDA, while BRS (4 Rajya Sabha MPs), BJD (7 Rajya Sabha MP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (1 Lok Sabha and 2 Rajya Sabha MPs) will reduce the number of votes of the electoral college to 767, with the majority figure will be 384.

From whom is India alliance expected?

The Lok Sabha has 293 members of NDA constituents and 134 in Rajya Sabha. Apart from this, the ruling coalition has got the support of four members of the Lok Sabha of YRS Congress and seven members of Rajya Sabha. It is clear that the numbers of force are in favor of the NDA candidate. On the other hand, India alliance is expected to have cross voting. He feels that MPs from South India, especially Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, will support his candidate on the voice of inter -soul. Please tell that the Vice Presidential election is being held on July 21 due to resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar for health reasons. In the 2022 Vice Presidential election, Dhankhar got 528 votes, while opposition candidate Margaret Alva got 182 votes.
