Kolkata: The Alipore Zoo in Kolkata has reported the unfortunate deaths of two tigresses, attributed to age-related health issues, according to zoo officials.

The two deaths occurred within just one day of each other.

Tigress Payel passed away on Tuesday, followed by tigress Rupa on Wednesday, as confirmed by a senior zoo official.

An inquiry committee has been established by the chief wildlife warden to investigate the circumstances surrounding the consecutive deaths, while viscera tests and autopsies are being conducted.

Rupa, a white (albino) tigress, was born at the zoo and was 21 years old at the time of her passing. Payel, who was 17, had been transferred from Nandankanan Zoo in Odisha in 2016.

Both tigresses had been receiving veterinary care due to their declining health, as noted by the official.
