Disney Plus shares gripping first look at Murdaugh Death in the Family

True crime enthusiasts will definitely want to catch a brand new series with Severance and Oppenheimer stars as a spine-chilling new trailer has just dropped.

Disney Plushas revealed a first glimpse at the disturbing new series titled Murdaugh: Death in the Family which is set to launch on Wednesday, October 15. The opening three episodes will debut, followed by one fresh episode weekly.

The true crime drama chronicles Maggie and Alex who relish a luxurious lifestyle of privilege as part of one of South Carolina's most influential legal dynasties. Yet their son Paul becomes embroiled in a fatal boat accident as the family finds itself "faced with a test unlike any they've ever encountered."

Disney Plus teases: "As details come to light and new challenges emerge, the family's connections to several mysterious deaths raise questions which threaten everything Maggie and Alex hold dear."

Drawing inspiration from the popular Murdaugh Murders Podcast, the series will feature eight episodes altogether, with Jason Clarke (Oppenheimer) portraying Alex Murdaugh and Patricia Arquette (Severance) as Maggie Murdaugh.

Viewers may also spot Johnny Berchtold (The Passenger) as Paul Murdaugh, Will Harrison (Daisy Jones and the Six) as Buster Murdaugh, Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect) as Mandy Matney, and J. Smith-Cameron (Succession) as Marian Proctor.

Disney Plus took to Instagram to announce: "Inspired by shocking actual events. Murdaugh: Death in the Family premieres October 15 on @hulu and with #HuluonDisneyPlus for bundle subscribers. #MurdaughonHulu."

Fans were quick off the mark to express their anticipation, with one commenting: "looks great cant wait."

Another added: "Oh my god. I did not recognise @patriciaarquette 's voice at all. This looks beyond intense. So. Many. Awards."

A spine-chilling trailer has been unveiled, featuring Jason Clarke as Alex Murdaugh uttering the words: "It's only cheating if you get caught", before later declaring: "Family first." The trailer teases fans with a shocking revelation as the influential family's secrets are set to be exposed.

The Murdaugh family is infamous for leading a life of crime resulting in dozens of victims. The series draws inspiration from the Murdaugh Murders Podcast, which delves into the criminal investigations surrounding this notorious American family, including drugs, fraud, and murder.

This isn't the first time the Murdaugh Murders have graced the screen, with Netflix previously releasing a documentary about the infamous family. However, not all fans are thrilled, with one remarking on Instagram: "Good lord. This family does not need more attention."

Another queried: "How many movies or series about this family has to be made?"

Murdaugh: Death in the Family is set to premiere on Disney Plus and Hulu on October 15.
