Online travel aggregator Ixigo has partnered with the government-backed ONDC to offer metro ticket booking through its Trains app, starting with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tickets.

“...this integration with Delhi’s public transport lifeline will allow commuters and travellers a more seamless last-mile-journey experience,” said Dinesh Kumar Kotha, chief executive of ixigo Trains and Confirmtkt.

Ixigo Trains has previously introduced several features, such as a travel guarantee for waitlisted tickets, live train running status with delay predictions, waitlist predictions, PNR confirmation prediction, and train alternates.

Founded in 2007 by Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar, Ixigo allows users to book train, flight, and bus tickets.

The company says it has 544 million annual active users, with 83 million of them active on a monthly basis. Revenue from train reservations stood at Rs 130 crore, rising from Rs 100 crore a year ago. Revenue from airlines and buses stood at Rs 103 crore and Rs 76 crore, respectively.

Ixigo posted a net profit of Rs 19 crore for the quarter ended June 30, marking a 27% rise from a year earlier. Operating revenue surged 73% to Rs 314 crore on account of growth across all lines of business, effective cross-selling and up-selling to its user base, as well as artificial intelligence (AI)-driven efficiency.

The DMRC, which currently operates nearly 400 km of network across over a dozen lines, recently partnered with ONDC, enabling commuters to book metro tickets through several consumer apps, including Rapido, Namma Yatri and Uber.

“By connecting metro ticketing with its vast ecosystem of trains, buses, and flights, ixigo is helping ONDC Network to build a unified mobility layer for India, where every commuter has seamless access to multiple modes of transport through open digital infrastructure, without being locked into silos,” said Vibhor Jain, acting CEO and COO, ONDC.
