H3n2 virus: There are a few months in India in which the H3N2 virus spreads the most. There is a risk of spreading this virus in this season too. The H3N2 virus is different from normal flu. Now research suggests that H3N2 infection can cause severe infection and disease in people above 65 years of age and children under 5 years of age. In such a situation, it is important to have information about its symptoms, causes and prevention.

H3N2 is an infectious flu and shows symptoms in the beginning like a cough-cold like Covid-19 and other seasonal flu. You can get into the grip of this virus by coming in contact with an infected surface and touching your face, eyes or mouth immediately after that. You can also get this infection by getting in close contact with an infected person. Once your symptoms develop, they can last up to 5 or 7 days.

How to treat H3N2 Flu

Cases of complication without H3N2 are treated like any other seasonal flu- such as a plentiful rest, inclusion of fluids in the diet, drinking juice, soup, water and fever, a headache and take a medicine only after getting a headache.

Apart from this, the thing to note is that if you are less than 5 or more than 65, then take special care. Pregnant women, a person suffering from chronic diseases like diabetes, pneumonia, asthma, heart disease or weak immune system should be checked immediately by a doctor in case of symptoms of infection.

Is H3N2 flu prevention possible?

The current flu vaccine includes H3N2. The vaccine of each season is prepared keeping in mind the more prevalent flu virus Stan in that season. The effectiveness of the vaccine can sometimes be reduced due to the drift (mutation) of the virus. Nevertheless, by following these measures, you can protect yourself and your loved ones from this infection.

  • Get the flu vaccine every year, it would be better to get it before the winter.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water again and again, before eating, especially after using the toilet, before eating and touching your face, mouth and eyes.
  • Wear a mask while going inside a crowded place or less ventilated house.
  • Avoid crowded places in the flu season where infection can spread rapidly.
  • Stay away from sick people.
  • Avoid taking antibiotics without your doctor's prescription.
