The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has put forth its stand on the controversy over the entry-level prepaid plan of telecom companies. TRAI sources said that at present, no immediate action is needed in this matter.
Response was sought from Jio and Airtel.
TRAI had recently sought clarification from Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel on the removal of the Rs 249 entry-level plan. According to reports, both companies have submitted their respective replies. One of these companies has submitted the necessary documents to TRAI confirming the withdrawal of the plan, while the other company has clarified that this plan is still available but only through physical stores.
Current status of the plan
Jio has removed its Rs 249 plan, which offered 1GB data per day and 28-day validity, from the MyJio app and Jio.com. However, this plan is available to customers at Jio's retail stores. On the other hand, Airtel has also removed its basic prepaid plan of the same price from the online platform.
TRAI is investigating the answers
TRAI said that the answers received from both companies are being investigated on the basis of regulatory standards. Based on the facts that have come to light so far, TRAI does not find any immediate intervention necessary.
