Police Crack Down on Khurda Jewellery Theft

Bhubaneswar: Authorities have apprehended six individuals linked to a recent jewellery heist in Khurda district, Odisha, as reported on Friday.


The police successfully retrieved 1.9 kilograms of gold, 4.5 kilograms of silver, and cash amounting to over ₹9.45 lakh from the suspects. Additionally, a homemade firearm, a live cartridge, and a knife believed to have been used in the robbery were also seized.


As per the First Information Report (FIR), the thieves made off with 11.5 kilograms of gold jewellery and 5 kilograms of silver, valued at approximately ₹11.55 crore during the incident.


Investigations revealed that a total of ten individuals were involved in the crime, with eight of them identified. Four suspects were taken into custody on September 1, while the remaining two were arrested on Friday, according to a police spokesperson.


"We have initiated a thorough operation to resolve this case. To date, six individuals have been arrested, and we have recovered 1.9 kilograms of gold, 4.5 kilograms of silver, and ₹9.45 lakh in cash from them," stated Khurda Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Sharma.
