Manchester United have unveiled their Premier League squad for the first half of the 2025/26 season, with a few surprises in the mix. The Red Devils have named just 21 players in their main squad, but this is supplemented by several under-21 talents including Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo, Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven.
Premier League regulations allow clubs to name up to 25 players in their squads, with the opportunity to make adjustments during the January transfer window. Under the rules, under-21 players do not need to be included in the main squad, which can feature no more than 17 players who do not meet the homegrown player criteria.
A player is considered homegrown if they have been registered with any club affiliated to the FA or the FAW for three full seasons, or 36 months, before their 21st birthday, or the end of the season in which they turn 21.
United's homegrown talent includes Tom Heaton, Dermot Mee, Rhys Bennett, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Amad.
Tyrell Malacia was a surprising inclusion in the squad submission. The last remaining member of the 'bomb squad', Malacia could remain in Manchester after failing to secure a move away from the club.
While the Turkish transfer window closes on Friday night, Saudi Arabia's window remains open until September 23.
Malacia has already been linked with clubs in Turkey but it remains to be seen if a move can be engineered in the coming days.
It seems unlikely that he will be involved against Manchester City, with Altay Bayindir starting in goal despite Senne Lammens arriving on deadline day.
Ruben Amorim confirmed the news in Friday's press conference, saying: "They will fight for the position. It is clear. Altay will start. He's ready to play, he will play.
"We are really pleased [with Lammens]. He is a goalkeeper with a lot of potential. We are in a moment where the goalkeeper needs to be really strong and have a lot of experience.
"But we also have to look at the present with a focus on the future, so it's a bit of both. He will be ready. Sometimes you as a club you try to see different options.
"We have an option [in Lammens] who can give us different things in this moment, but who also has a great potential to be our goalkeeper for a number of years."
