After a batting collapse, Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain’s knocks have helped Bangladesh to post a decent total in the Asia Cup 2025 game against Sri Lanka.
Their 86-run partnership has helped the side to stabilise the innings after Sri Lanka’s bowlers’ onslaught.
After being put to bat first, Bangladesh openers Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon got dismissed on a duck by Nuwan Thushara and Chameera.
Both the bowlers put a maiden over as Bangladesh did not score run until the end of 2nd over.
With the dismissal of Towhid Hridoy for 8 runs on a run out, Bangladesh lost three wickets in the powerplay scoring only 30 runs.
Wanindu Hasaranga who introduced to bowling after powerplay, picked the wickets of Mahedi Hasan and Litton Das for 9 and 28 runs respectively.
With Bangladesh struggling with 53/5 in the 10th over, Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain stepped up forging a solid parntership and helped the side to post a decent total in their 20 over innings.
With Jaker Ali’s 41* and Hossain’s 42*, Bangladesh went up to set up the target of 140 for Sri Lanka.
Speaking at the toss, Charith Asalanka said, “We are going to bowl, looks like a new pitch so we want to bowl. Obviously yes. It’s a good memory and we want to keep the momentum up.”
“It’s a good challenge as a captain and we got a good bunch of players. 7-4 combo with three all rounders. Hasaranga is playing,” concluded Hasaranga.
Meanwhile Litton Das said, “Don’t mind batting first, looks like a good wicket. We played good cricket in the first game, we have to improve in certain areas. To win a game you got to get everything right. Taskin is not playing and Shoriful is in.”
