After months of delay, the highly anticipated romantic comedy ‘Aabeer Gulaal’starring Pakistan’s Fawad Khan and India’s Vaani Kapoorhas finally been released globally. The film, which marks a rare cross-border collaboration, hit cinemas on September 12 across several countries, including the UAE, Canada, Australia, and the UK.
Originally, a teaser for Aabeer Gulaal was unveiled in April 2025with the film’s release scheduled for May. However, escalating tensions between Pakistan and India in May led to a sudden postponement. All promotional material, including the teaser and trailer, was taken down from platforms like YouTube at the time.
Last month, the trailer was re-released with a new global release date. While fans around the world are now able to enjoy the film, it has not been released in either Pakistan or Indiawith no official announcements regarding its availability in local cinemas. Major Pakistani cinema websites also show no listings for the film.
According to the film’s official Instagram page, Aabeer Gulaal has opened in international markets to a warm reception. Gulf News praised the film’s storytelling and visuals, highlighting the on-screen chemistry between the lead pair.
This film marks Fawad Khan’s return to Bollywood after nearly a decade. His last Indian film appearance was in ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (2016).
Interestingly, Aabeer Gulaal follows a growing trend of Pakistani actors appearing in Indo-Canadian Punjabi filmssuch as Imran Ashraf’s and Chania Aamir’s recent releases, both of which were screened in Pakistan despite ongoing diplomatic tensions.
Though relations between the two nations remain strained, the release of Aabeer Gulaal internationally hints at a cultural bridge that fans on both sides of the border are still eager to cross.
