Martin Lewis' wife Lara Lewington has opened up about the pair's "competitive" streak, particularly when it comes to their favourite board game. The pair don't tend to discuss their marriage publiclly, with many of their interviews focused on their respective careers instead.

In a conversation with Jenni Falconer on the RunPod podcast however, Lara gave an insight into their competitive nature.

The 46-yearold presenter, known for her work on BBC's Click, confessed that they both enjoy a good game of Scrabble and are always trying to outdo one another.

She divulged: "Well, we are quite competitive over some things, usually Scrabble, but he's just so much better than me."

Lara also discussed how their fitness routines differ, adding: "He walks about 25,000 steps a day. He walks so much, I'm never gonna catch up with his steps."

"And a lot of work I do, I need to be sat down at the computer. I can't do that much of it in calls walking around.

"So I'm never going to be able to catch up with him. So, I can't get competitive over it.

"He's got a friend that he competes with and takes it very seriously, so luckily he can do that with them."

The couple, who reportedly began their romance in 2005, got engaged over a game of Scrabble, which then led to their wedding in 2009.

Three years on from their special day, they welcomed their daughter Sapphire into the world.

Martin and Lara are a familiar duo on the red carpet, having recently attended The National Television Awards.

The finance expert was one of the nominees on the evening for the Factual Entertainment award, though missed out on the gong to Jeremy Clarkson's farming series, Clarkson's Farm.

While Martin is typically reserved about his personal life, he has previously leaped to his wife's defence online.

In 2020, when a Twitter user insisted Lara was a "a gold digger", Martin swiftly responded: "I know you think it's a joke, but actually it's offensive both to me and my wife - you're accusing her of being a gold digger."

That same year, during a chat with The Sunday Times, Martin offered a glimpse into his family life.

He shared: "When my daughter was born, I remember saying, 'I'll buy her everything she needs, but not everything she wants'.

"Unfortunately, I didn't factor in her special power. Those eyes."

Martin also expressed that one of the "greatest joys" for him is "is making her happy," ensuring that regardless of his busy schedule, he always wraps up work by 6pm to spend quality time with her.

Lara is a guest on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch, which kicks off today at 10am.
