Dharamshala: The announcement of a ₹1,500 crore relief package by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the disaster-stricken Himachal Pradesh has garnered positive reactions from BJP leaders in the region. They believe this initiative showcases the government's empathy towards the hardships faced by affected families.
BJP spokesperson Trilok Kapoor released a statement on Sunday, labeling the relief package as a “timely and compassionate measure” that aims to provide immediate assistance while also laying out a plan for long-term recovery.
Kapoor noted that the Prime Minister's recent visit to Dharamshala highlighted his genuine concern for the residents of Himachal, a state he frequently refers to as dear to him. “By engaging directly with victims, leading an emergency review, and announcing specific actions, the Prime Minister has demonstrated that the Centre is steadfastly supporting Himachal during this challenging period,” he stated.
He emphasized that the relief package extends beyond immediate aid, incorporating structural support for recovery efforts. The early disbursement of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the installment under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, along with the geo-tagging of damaged homes through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, will facilitate quicker assistance.
Kapoor also pointed out the plans for restoring national highways, repairing educational facilities, constructing water conservation systems, and providing financial support to farmers and livestock owners, which he described as vital for revitalizing rural livelihoods in Himachal.
He welcomed the Prime Minister's acknowledgment of rescue personnel, stating that Modi's commendation of the NDRF, SDRF, Army, local administration, and disaster volunteers has uplifted spirits at a crucial time.
“The message is clear — this initiative is not solely about relief but about reconstructing Himachal with renewed vigor,” Kapoor remarked, encouraging unity among the populace as rehabilitation efforts progress.
