A local court in Lahore has directed the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to take legal action against YouTuber Rajab Butt under relevant laws over allegations of blasphemy.
Additional Sessions Judge Shafqat Shehbaz Raja issued a written verdict on a petition filed by complainant Shehzada Adnan, who had approached the court seeking legal proceedings against Rajab Butt. According to the written order, the petitioner claimed that the NCCIA had failed to act upon his complaint regarding blasphemy.
After reviewing the evidence and listening to arguments from both sides, the court ruled that the cybercrime authority must initiate action against the social media influencer in accordance with the law.
Earlier in July, the petitioner filed a request in court alleging that Rajab Butt had hurt religious sentiments during the launch of his perfume brand. The complainant further accused the YouTuber of mocking Pakistan’s blasphemy laws during the promotional event.
In March, a case had already been registered against Rajab Butt under cybercrime laws for similar charges. Following backlash, Butt announced he was discontinuing his perfume brand and reportedly left the country for a period.
The court’s recent order comes amid growing scrutiny of online content creators, particularly those accused of violating religious or moral norms.
Additionally, Rajab Butt is also being investigated by the NCCIA for allegedly promoting gambling applications on social media, similar to fellow YouTuber “Ducky Bhai.” Authorities claim that Butt used his influence to market betting apps, which is a criminal offense under Pakistani law.
The court has now instructed the NCCIA to pursue legal proceedings against Butt not only for blasphemy- accusations but also for his alleged involvement in the advertisement of illegal betting platforms.
