British drivers could enjoy up to £50 cashback by making one motoring change within the next week. EDF Energy is offering a £50 cashback bonus to customers signing up to its GoElectric EV tariff rate in a limited-time offer ending on Sunday.

EDF claims its new GoElectric tariff will provide electric car owners with almost 2,000 miles of free home charging, enough for a whopping 374 school runs. The tariff will charge road users just 9p/kWh overnight for both the drivers' home energy and vehicle charging. The energy firm claims this new rate will carry around £316 in savings compared to a standard variable rate policy.

Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF Energy said: "August was the highest monthly share of EV adoption this year. As we head into September, we know many drivers are considering making the switch, and this offer is designed to help them do just that - putting £50 back in their pockets and giving them access to one of the most cost-effective ways to charge at home. It's about making cleaner transport more accessible, affordable, and rewarding."

To be eligible for the £50 credit, new or existing customers must switch to the GoElectric tariff before the deadline on September 21.

EDF has confirmed that the credit will be applied to an account within 60 days of signing up, meaning road users will receive the cash around November, just ahead of Christmas. However, motorists must have a smart meter and be opted into half-hourly meter readings to qualify under the scheme.

EDF stresses that their new tariff is set to be compatible with all EV models and chargers in a hassle-free switch. Meanwhile, the rate is said to include five hours of cheaper electricity every night between 12am - 5am, ensuring road users can take advantage of additional savings.

Earlier this year, WhatCar? Suggested that OVO's Charge Anytime tariff was the best home electric car tariff on the market with a 7p per kWh charging rate anytime. Experts at the motoring group claim this puts the average one-day charging cost at just £3.68.

E.On Next Next Drive Fixed V9 tariff was next with road users able to secure rates of just 6.7p per kWh between midnight and 7am.
