CBSE Board Exam 2025: CBSE has issued new rules for 10th and 12th board exams, in which 75% attendance and two years of study have been made mandatory.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued new eligibility rules for class 10th and 12th board exams. The board has made it clear that students must have a minimum of 75% attendance to appear in the exam. Along with this, students will have to study for two full years and it will be necessary to participate in internal assessment.
CBSE said that the 10th and 12th exams are only for those students who have regularly attended classes in school. That is, if the student's attendance is less than 75%, then he will not be eligible to appear in the board exam. The board says that regular attendance not only strengthens the studies of the students, but internal assessment can also be done properly.
Two years of study is necessary
The board also clarified that the class 10th examination is actually a two-year program of 9th and 10th, while the 12th examination is a two-year course of 11th and 12th. Therefore, any student will have to study for both years.
Internal assessment will be important
Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, internal assessment has now been made a mandatory part of the board. CBSE says that if a student does not come to school, his internal assessment will not be done. And if there is no internal assessment, then the result of that student will also not be declared. Such students will be put in the category of "Essential Repeat".
Rules for choosing additional subjects
Class 10th: Apart from the compulsory 5 subjects, students can choose 2 additional subjects.
Class 12th: Students will be allowed to take only 1 additional subject.
But it is also necessary that the school has got permission from CBSE to teach the concerned subject. If the school does not have qualified teachers, laboratory or necessary facilities, then that subject will not be made available to the students.
Compartment and repeat rules
The board also said that if a student has already taken an additional subject and has been placed in the 'Compartment' or 'Essential Repeat' category, then he can appear in the exam as a private candidate in that subject.
