Mumbai: On Monday, Acharya Devvrat officially took the oath of office as the new governor of Maharashtra.

Last week, President Droupadi Murmu appointed him to this role, adding to his responsibilities as the governor of Gujarat, following the departure of CP Radhakrishnan, who was elected as the country's next Vice-President.

The oath was administered by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar of the Bombay High Court at the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.

Devvrat chose to recite the oath in Sanskrit.

The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, various state ministers, senior bureaucrats, and police officials.

At 66 years old, Devvrat has served as the governor of Gujarat since 2019. He holds a postgraduate degree in Hindi and History, along with a doctorate in Naturopathy and Yogic Science.
