Interestingly, when the female-led project was just starting out, there was a lot of scepticism. Dulquer Salmaan, who supported the daring film, recalls how Kalyani's father, legendary filmmaker Priyadarshan, was initially doubtful, and so was his father, legendary actor Mammootty.
Dulquer Salmaan reveals Priyadarshan, Mammootty were 'worried' about Lokah
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Dulquer recalled with a laugh, "He couldn't believe it. He asked her, 'What were you thinking? Why take such a risk?' I told him honestly, I didn't really know. I just believed in the concept. It felt right." Given the high budget and pressure, both families had their worries. "My dad (veteran actor Mammootty) was concerned too," Dulquer admits. "Everyone thought we might be a bit crazy."
Now they're proud: Dulquer Salmaan
Despite the concerns, there was a strong sense of pride underneath it all. "Now, they're very proud," Dulquer adds. "I think we've earned some freedom to make the kind of films we want. They're starting to believe we know what we're doing."
Kalyani on her father Priyardarshan's reaction
For Kalyani, the experience was deeply personal. Her father's reaction wasn't just celebratory but also a grounding influence. She shared, "The first message he sent after the film's success was, 'Don't let success go to your head, and don't let failure break your heart. He says it often, but this time it felt like a special reminder. He keeps reminding me daily. That's something I hold close."
Their story reflects not only the pressure of living up to a family legacy but also the weight of personal expectations. Duqluer added, "Her dad is adorable. He worries she might get hurt doing all these action scenes. 'She's already boxed in one movie, and now she's doing this.'"
