Importance of charity in Pitrupaksha
Pitru paksha daan: Pitrupaksha is not only the period of Shraddha and Tarpan, it is also the most auspicious time for the works of charity which can provide spiritual benefits to both the departed ancestors and the donor. According to the Garuda Purana, by doing Godan in this fortnight, one attains Pitra salvation and the donor also gets the path of heaven. In Hinduism, Godan is considered the highest task of charity, which consists of compassion, devotion and religion, which makes it more important than normal donations.
Garuda Purana, which is counted in the most authentic texts associated with death, hereafter and religion, clearly states that it is necessary to donate food, water and sesame seeds for the fulfillment of ancestors, but Godan is considered to be the supreme donation. If a person does Godan in Pitrupaksha, then his ancestors can directly move towards Devaloka by getting rid of the god Virtue leads not only the ancestors but also the donor towards virtue and heaven.
Godan is not only physical charity but is the highest expression of organism and mercy and religion. It is mentioned in the Puranas that the cow is called the gatekeeper of Saptaloka. Every part of the cow is considered to be the abode of gods and pilgrimages. When a person donates a cow, he pleases all the gods.
Godan performed during Pitrupaksha is considered many times more fruitful than ordinary days. It satisfies the soul of the ancestors. The bond of his next life breaks. Sins are also destroyed for the donor and he gets devotion. In Pitrupaksha, people offer food and water, but Garuda Purana says that if Godan is done in this period, it not only opens the door of salvation for the ancestors but also leads itself to heaven. This is why it has been called the best donation.
