The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several parts of Karnataka for Tuesday, September 16, warning of heavy rainfall in multiple districts. Moreover, the alert is expected to extend into Wednesday, September 15 after it was initially sounded on Monday, September 15.

IMD has cautioned that Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Kodagu, Hassan, Shivamogga, Davangere, Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada are among the districts expected to see sustained rainfall over the coming two days.

In addition, the revived monsoon conditions are likely to bring another round of intense rain in southern and coastal districts, with Bengaluru city, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Bidar, Kalaburagi, and Vijayapura under alert.

Several of these regions had already received more than 20 percent above-normal rainfall earlier this month, and officials have advised residents to remain alert to the possibility of local flooding and traffic disruption.

This comes after a spell of downpours between September 8 and 10, followed by moderate showers that continued across the state until September 14.

Meteorologists have said that September usually records about 167.9 mm of rain in Karnataka, but this year the state may see nearly double that amount. IMD has projected 109 percent above-normal rainfall for the month, indicating that showers will remain active in the state well beyond mid-September.

Bengaluru recorded maximum temperatures around 27–28°C and minimum temperatures near 19–20°C in recent days, conditions that are expected to hold as the new rain spell begins.
