BMW has launched the updated S 1000 R in India, priced at Rs 19.90 lakh, exshowroom. The new BMW S 1000 R is the naked and detuned version of the fullyfaired S1000RR, and the motorcycle features a few tweaks compared to the older model.
The motorcycle is available in three colour options to choose from, and they are: Blackstorm Metallic, Bluefire/Mugiallo Yellow with Style Sport, and Lightwhite Uni/M Motorsport with the M package.
Starting with the design, BMW has retained the overall silhouette of the motorcycle, which has been on sale for a long time now. The motorcycle retains its aggressive and sharp styling, along with the twinpod headlights and the exposed rear subframe. Overall, the motorcycle features an aggressive design.
The powerplant has also been retained, and the motorcycle is powered by a 999 cc, liquidcooled inline fourcylinder engine. The engine makes 170 bhp and 114 Nm of peak torque. BMW claims an acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds, while its top speed is electronically capped at 250 kmph, which is plenty for a street naked. BMW has tweaked the finaldrive ratio for better acceleration.
The list of features is also extensive, and the motorcycle comes equipped with Headlight Pro, featuring daytime riding lights, M Quick Action throttle, riding modes, ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control, and a 6.5inch TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity and navigation.
Customers can also choose from three optional packages: Dynamic, Comfort, and M Sport. These packages add on more features to the new S 1000 R, such as cruise control, heated grips, shift assistant, M lightweight battery, and forged wheels.
In India, the new BMW S 1000 R competes with the Honda CB1000 Hornet, the Kawasaki Z900, and the Ducati Street Fighter V4, amongst others. Globally, the new S 1000 R has more competition. Customers can also opt for fullyfaired motorcycles in the price range, such as the newlylaunched Kawasaki ZX10R and the new Honda Firblade.
Commenting on the launch, Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India, said, “The new BMW S 1000 R is where dynamic roadster design meets the heart of a superbike. It is aggressive, agile, engineered for pure performance and is a machine that is as thrilling as it is to look at. With its bold aesthetics, razorsharp precision and adrenalinepacked DNA, the ‘Single R’ is built for those who live for the rush. It is not just a motorcycle – it’s a statement.”
