NMC has approved 430 additional MBBS seats to promote medical education in the state. Along with this, two new medical colleges have also received the green signal, which will give more opportunities to the students.

Taking an important step towards medical education in Bihar, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has gifted 430 additional MBBS seats to the state for the academic session 2025-26. This decision will make the path to becoming a doctor easier for thousands of students, and they will get more opportunities.

According to the information received from the Health Department, NMC has sent the information about the allocation of these seats to the state government. However, this time only Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences i.e. IGIMS, has been given additional seats in government colleges. This institute located in Patna has got 30 new seats. Now a total of 150 students will get admission here instead of the earlier 120 seats.

Seats have also been expanded in private medical colleges. Netaji Subhash Medical College and Hospital has been approved for 50 new seats, taking the total number of seats there to 150. Madhubani Medical College and Hospital has got 100 additional seats, while Himalaya Medical College has got the benefit of an increase of 50 seats. The increased seats in these institutions will not only help local students but more students from outside the state will also be able to take admission here.

Not only this, NMC has also given permission to open two new medical colleges and hospitals in the state. The first college will start as Shyamlal Chandrashekhar Medical College and Shaheed Prabhunarayan Multi Specialty Hospital in Parmanandpur of Khagaria district, where admission has been allowed on 100 MBBS seats. The second college will start as Mahabodhi Medical College and Hospital in Mahabodhinagar, Gopalpur Sherghati of Gaya district and admission will be done on 100 seats here too.

Seats will increase by this much

After the new decision, there will be a total of 1420 MBBS seats in government medical colleges in the state. At the same time, the seats in private medical colleges have increased to 1750. In this way, admission will be possible on a total of 3170 seats. This decision of NMC is a big relief for those students who appear in medical entrance examination NEET every year but due to limited seats, their dream of becoming a doctor remains unfulfilled. With the increase in seats, more students will now get a chance to enter this profession.

Positive impact on health services too

Experts believe that the opening of additional seats and new colleges will also have a positive impact on the health services of the state. In future, a large number of doctors will emerge from here who will help in providing health facilities even in rural and remote areas.
