Scottie Scheffler has revealed his verdict on Ben Griffin, his new Ryder Cup team-mate, after providing a glimpse into Team USA's preparations for this month's showdown. Scheffler claimed victory at the Procore Championship, edging out Griffin by the narrowest of margins as the pair battled throughout the tournament in a warm-up for the Ryder Cup. Notably, Griffin will feature in his maiden Team USA squad, while Scheffler will compete in the prestigious event for the third occasion.

Following his triumph, Scheffler took the opportunity to discuss Griffin's capabilities ahead of the renowned tournament. It follows Team USA's statement in Napa in the build-up to the Ryder Cup. Addressing journalists after his victory, the world's top-ranked player heralded Griffin as the duo gear up for the encounter at Bethpage Black later this month.

"I think Ben always had the belief that he was going to be out here," began Scheffler. "I don't know if he was an accountant or [loan mortgage officer] for that long."

Scheffler praised Griffin's self-assurance, which he believes will make him a crucial asset against Team Europe in the forthcoming clash.

"When you talk to Ben, he's a guy that has a lot of confidence, he's got a lot of self belief, that's what we love about him being a part of our Ryder Cup team," he added.

"I grew up with Ben. He always had the talent to make it out here. He's been a tremendous putter for his entire [career], as long as I've known him, and his ball-striking has really come around.

"He's also picked up some speed. Ben's a guy that has always put in I think a ton of work and he's always looking to improve.

"He's never lacked confidence and he's going to be a great part of our Ryder Cup team this year, and I'm sure he'll be a part of many teams going forward as well."

Speaking about his bond with Griffin, Scheffler revealed the 29-year-old was someone he'd been battling against for years, which has helped forge a strong friendship between the pair.

"We used to play practice rounds together in junior and amateur golf, he's been a buddy of mine for a long time," he added.

"I have some of my best friends in the whole world out here on Tour. I feel like I know a lot of the guys out here really well.

"So, it would be very rare to have a guy coming into the team room that we didn't know very well just because we see each other week in, week out out here."

With the Ryder Cup looming large, Scheffler highlighted how his duel with Griffin at the Procore Championship could prove vital in honing both players' abilities as they prepare to unite against Team Europe for the first time.

"It's much more interesting to be coming down the stretch having a chance to win the golf tournament. It's a ton of fun. Ben and I had a great battle today. I was fortunate to be the winner this week, but he's going to bounce back.

"I'm excited that he's going to be on my team in a couple weeks. I'm excited that I don't have to play against him."
