A stretch of the M60 was shut this morning, with delays of up to two hours for motorists during a "police incident". Traffic had been stopped in both directions between junction 6, for Sale, and junction 8, for Carrington on the motorway. The clockwise stretch of the road is still closed, with a diversion currently in place.

Greater Manchester Police said they were dealing with a "concern for welfare incident". There were "severe delays", according to traffic service Inrix. At one point, traffic on the clockwise side stretched back to junction 25 for Brinnington in Stockport. On the clockwise side, congestion went back to junction 12 (Eccles Interchange).
