Benjamin Sesko comment speaks volumes as he's confronted with same Rasmus Hojlund issue

A former Manchester United star has voiced fears that Benjamin Sesko is encountering the identical struggles that plagued Rasmus Hojlund during his time at Old Trafford. The 22-year-old was snapped up by United from RB Leipzig at the beginning of August in a transfer valued at just under £74million.

The forward was recruited to spearhead United's revamped attack, but has thus far been deployed sparingly by head coach Ruben Amorim. Sesko has yet to open his account after featuring in five matches across all competitions for United this campaign.

The Slovenia international was given his maiden Premier League start against Manchester City on Sunday, but was largely left to survive on scraps as United suffered a 3-0 defeat to their fierce rivals. Former United and Wrexham shot-stopper Ben Foster has voiced concern for Sesko regarding the shortage of opportunities created by his teammates during the encounter at the Etihad Stadium.

He fears that United's attackers will face identical problems to the last campaign, when players like Hojlund struggled to find the back of the net, which suggests that Amorim still has plenty to figure out.

"I felt sorry for Sesko," Foster said on his Fozcast podcast. "I thought he didn't get any service whatsoever and it's very similar to Hojlund last season. It looks like it's going to be hard work being a striker for Man United.

"If you're a striker, you need to score straight away, because it gets everybody off your back and it's something to build on.

"When you go four games, and you've gone to Grimsby away and you haven't scored and you go on an international break with Slovenia and haven't scored, it's hard work."

Hojlund only managed to net ten times in 52 appearances for United last season before being shipped off to Napoli on a season-long loan at the start of September. The Danish striker made an immediate impact for the Serie A side, scoring just 14 minutes into his debut after getting the better of ex-United keeper David de Gea.

Despite splashing out around £200million in the summer to bolster their attacking options, United's lack of goals is still a concern for many, including former defender Rio Ferdinand.

On his podcast, Rio Ferdinand Presents, he expressed his worries: "The one I'm worried about is Sesko. He ain't getting no chances man, he ain't getting no opportunities, there's nothing created for him.

"That's the concern. A new striker comes in the football club, gets in the team, you've got to think about creating chances for him. Getting him on the end of things. He's got to think about getting on the end of things.

"That's something I think has got to be looked at, and fixed quick. I don't want to think about what it could turn out to be."

He added: "It's depressing watching United like that. The way we allowed them to get in and get goals and get opportunities - it was weak, it was powderpuff, it just lacked anything.

"I thought in the first-half, we pressed them quite well, and we had possession at times. [But then we] got in the final third, and there was zero creativity. Without Bruno [Fernandes], you're looking at it going, 'who else is going to create something - [Bryan] Mbeumo?' But there' s no real guile."
