Rajnath Singh's Call for Preparedness Against Modern Warfare

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has urged the armed forces to move beyond traditional concepts of warfare and remain vigilant against unconventional threats such as information, ideological, ecological, and biological warfare. Speaking at the Combined Commanders Conference 2025 in Kolkata on September 16, he emphasized the need for continuous assessment of global changes and their impact on national security, especially in light of the turbulent global order and regional instability.

Singh highlighted that the nature of warfare is constantly evolving, with recent global conflicts underscoring the importance of a 'technology-friendly' military. He noted that modern conflicts can arise suddenly and unpredictably, making it challenging to estimate their duration, which could range from two months to five years. Therefore, readiness is crucial to ensure that military capabilities remain robust.

Describing India's defense sector as a blend of offensive and defensive capabilities, the Defense Minister called on commanders to adopt a proactive approach and work towards the creation of the Suraksha Chakra, in line with Prime Minister Modi's vision. He announced the formation of a committee to review the project and develop a 'realistic action plan.' Singh suggested creating a medium-term plan for the next five years and a long-term strategy for the next decade to realize this vision.

Emphasizing that the modernization of the defense sector should focus on operational readiness, technological superiority, and reliable deterrence, Singh called for attention to the mantra of 'Jai' (Unity, Self-Reliance, and Innovation) articulated by Prime Minister Modi during the conference's inaugural session on September 15, 2025. He advocated for deep collaboration with industry and academia in developing future-ready technologies and reaffirmed the Prime Minister's vision to enhance the role of the private sector in building a robust defense innovation ecosystem.
