Puri: In a move to step up security at Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha Police have geared up for deploying an anti-drone system and around the 12th century shrine.

The move comes in the wake of frequent reports about unauthorised drones flying over the temple premises.

It has been decided to install a system capable of neutralising high-frequency drone signals, rendering any drone within its range inoperative. This advanced anti-drone technology will cover the main temple as well as its surrounding areas, substantially enhancing security.

Sources said the decision was taken during a crucial meeting chaired by Central Range DIG Satyajit Naik. The meeting, attended by SPs from seven districts, focused on strengthening law and order in areas under the central range, particularly during the upcoming festive season.

The Odisha Police have prepared a master plan to prevent crimes and maintain law and order during the festive season. The anti-drone system is a significant part of this comprehensive security strategy, and once operational, no drone will be able to fly over the temple.

The proposed anti-drone equipment will be deployed to neutralise high-frequency drone signals, while the government is thinking in terms of declaring the area a no-flying zone, DIG Naik said.
