Amitabh Bachchan is one of the shining stars of Bollywood who despite ageing has never faded. The actor is 82 today but there was a time in his late 20s 30s and 40s when he enthralled his fans with thrilling films. However despite delivering an all-time blockbuster in 1975 Big B still faced challenges in getting big films. Did you know that in the 70s there was a film helmed by Rakesh Kumar that originally had Vinod Khanna in the lead? But eventually Amitabh Bachchan took over Khannas role and became the lead.
Amitabh Bachchan Snatched a Lead Role From Vinod Khanna
In the 1970s a relative of Om Prakash Mehra planned to produce a film titled Khoon Pasina. The project was handed over to Rakesh Kumar who was then Mehra’s assistant director. Rakesh wrote the story and finalized Vinod Khanna for the lead role with Danny Denzongpa as the second lead.
According to details shared on an Instagram page when Rakesh narrated the story of Khoon Pasina to Om Prakash Mehra he said “I will also produce this film but you will have to cast Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role.” The reason was simple—Amitabh and Om Prakash shared a close bond.
Hearing this Rakesh Kumar was shocked as he had already finalized Vinod Khanna as the lead.
To make adjustments Rakesh had to sacrifice Danny Denzongpa’s role and asked Vinod Khanna to play the supporting role instead. Vinod agreed and played the second lead in Khoon Pasina for the sake of friendship.
Released in 1977 Khoon Pasina turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office and significantly boosted Amitabh Bachchans career as an actor.
