After being shared on video streaming platform YouTube, the video clip of the performance was praised by viewers. Robert is not the first from his family to have appeared on Dancing with the stars. In 2015, his sister Bindi won Dancing with the Stars Season 21 with her professional partner, Derek Hough. The conservationist and actress took home the Mirrorball Trophy in November 2015. In that season, Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter and Army Specialist Alek Skarlatos finished in second and third place, respectively. Bindi won the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy in 2015.

Following his performance, as the audience, judges, and fellow contestants broke into applause praising Robert Irwin, he rushed over to give his sister Bindi Irwin a hug. His mother, Terri, and Bindi's husband, Chandler Powell, were also sitting in the audience.
