Indian Railway Ticket Rules: Indian Railways has become an essential part of the lives of millions of people today. Millions travel by train every day. Some travel for work, some for studies, some for travel, and some to visit family. Traveling by train is special in many ways. This is why Indian Railways is called the lifeline of the country. It not only provides comfortable and affordable travel, but also strengthens the country's economy.

However, sometimes it happens that you book a train ticket months in advance and lose it just before your journey. This situation causes panic among most people. However, Indian Railways has established several simple rules and solutions to deal with this situation. Let's explore how you can travel if you lose your ticket before your train journey.

How can you travel if you lose your ticket?

1. There are two main types of railway tickets. The first is an e-ticket, which you book through the IRCTC website or app. The second is a counter ticket, which you obtain at the railway station by filling out a reservation form. The rules for these two tickets are slightly different, so you'll need to first determine which type of ticket you have.

2. If you purchased your ticket from a ticket counter and lost it before your trip, there's no need to panic. In this case, you should visit your nearest Chief Reservation Supervisor. You will then need to submit a written application stating that your ticket has been lost. A duplicate ticket can be issued for a fee of ₹50 (sleeper class) or ₹100 (AC class). This duplicate ticket is valid as the original ticket.

3. If you have already boarded the train and then lose your ticket, first contact the TTE (ticket checker). If you have a photocopy, screenshot, or message of your PNR number or ticket, show it. If you don't have any, the TTE will verify your name against the chart and allow you to continue your journey, but you will be charged the full fare again, and a fine will be imposed.

4. If you have an e-ticket and forget your ID, ID proof is required for e-ticket travel. If you have purchased an e-ticket but forget to bring your ID, the railway rules will consider you to be without a ticket. In such a case, you can continue your journey by paying the fare and a fine to the TTE. The TTE will allow you to travel on the same berth you previously booked.
