According to the Hindu calendar, this year Sharadiya Navratri starts from 22 September, 2025, on 2 October, Navratri will end with Vijayadashami. The Kalash is installed on the first day of Navratri, which is called Ghatasthapana. On this day, the goddess will be welcomed in the house. Devotees will sit in their homes for the next nine days.
According to the Hindu calendar, on September 22, the auspicious time of Ghatasthapana will be from 6:09 am to 8:06 am. At the same time, Abhijeet Muhurta will be from 11:49 am to 12:38 pm. Devotees can also do Ghatasthapana during this time.
On the first day of Sharadiya Navratri, a form of Goddess Durga, Goddess Shailputri is worshiped. The Kalash is established on the Pratipada date of Navratri. After this, Shailputri Mata is worshiped. The installation of Kalash requires Panchpallav (five leaves) or mango leaves, an earthen pot, barley, water, a clean cloth, a coconut, a holy thread, roli (vermilion), betel nut, Ganga water, a coin, dury grass, wheat and rice rash, turmeric, betel leaves and camphor.
Kalash or Ghatasthapana is done on the first day of the night. The Kalash should be installed in the north-east direction of the temple and after installing the idol of Goddess Durga, the Kalash should be installed. First, purify it by spraying Ganga water at the urn installation site. Then, make a red swastika on the wooden post and install the urn. Place a mango leaf in the urn and fill it with water or Ganga water. Also, add a betel nut, some coins, durva and a lump of turmeric. Wrap a coconut in red cloth and place it on the face of the urn. Make a flower of Ashtadalpunj with rice or akshat and install the idol of Goddess Durga on it. Cover it with red or pink colored dupatta. Many people also light a unbroken lamp with the installation of urn.
