Synopsis

Salad and Go, the Arizona-based drive-thru salad chain, is closing down 41 restaurants, which includes every location in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. The brand will continue running in Dallas–Fort Worth, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Las Vegas. Founded in 2013 by Tony and Roushan Christofellis, Salad and Go became popular for providing salads under $8 in stores. Despite immediate expansion to over 140 units by mid-2025, the company is currently consolidating.

Budget-friendly salad chain Salad and Go is fading rapidly: The one-of-a-kind salad chain concept of low-priced salads in a drive-thru-only format, is preparing to shut down 41 restaurants.

A company official announcement confirmed the closing down will wipe out all of its locations in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. The only Texas units left will be in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Beyond Texas, the brand will remain operating in Oklahoma, Arizona, and Las Vegas.

Founding and Mission

Established in Gilbert, Arizona, in 2013 by Tony and Roushan Christofellis, Salad and Go was created with the focus of reinventing fast food with healthier and affordable options. The founders launched salads with a price under $8 in compact outlets, sometimes just 750 square feet, proving it possible to reach urban places like downtown Dallas.

The menu has more than greens: guests can find wraps, breakfast burritos, soup, and beverages such as lemonade, tea, and cold brew coffee.

Leadership’s Take

Current CEO Mike Tattersfield, who stepped into the position in April 2025 and also has a minority ownership, described the closures as a need to focus on stronger-performing markets like Dallas and Oklahoma. The brand still maintains its operations in Phoenix, Tucson, and Las Vegas.

He acknowledged the difficult decision, naming it a "difficult moment."

“Salad and Go is a disruptive brand within QSR, built to challenge the status quo and deliver something better for today’s guests,” Tattersfield cited. “We deeply believe in the power and the mission of this brand, and in the positive impact it can have for the communities we serve. To all of our employees, past and present, we are profoundly grateful for your contributions, your belief, and the role you have played in building Salad and Go. While this moment is difficult, we know the change will ultimately give us the foundation we need to grow stronger and make delicious, nutritious food accessible to all.”

Expansion and Retraction

The chain’s Texas entry started in 2021 with its first Plano location. Development was rapid, Salad and Go nearly increased and doubled its store number in just two years. By May 2025, the company had more than 140 outlets, along with a 2024 commissary kitchen in Garland made to support as many as 500 regions.

That optimism has since been cooled by the realities of scaling rapidly.Currently, with the shut downs, Salad and Go is tightening its scope to ensure long-term stability while still championing its exact goal: to create healthier fast food being accessible and affordable as well.
