The pro-Khalistan group Sikhs For Justice has announced a planned 12-hour protest at the Indian consulate located in Vancouver, Canada, scheduled for Thursday, according to reports from a local news outlet.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the organization advised Indian-Canadians to avoid visiting the consulate on September 18 for their own safety.
Sikhs For Justice has accused the Indian consulate of running a surveillance operation in Canada aimed at monitoring Khalistan supporters, who advocate for a separate Sikh state.
This organization, which is based in the United States, was banned in India in 2019 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
Thursday marks the second anniversary of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's statement to Parliament regarding credible allegations that Indian agents were involved in the assassination of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
According to Sikhs For Justice, 'Two years later, Indian consulates are still operating a spy network targeting those campaigning for the Khalistan referendum.'
Nijjar was killed in June 2023 near Vancouver by two unidentified assailants. He was the leader of the Khalistan Tiger Force, which is classified as a terrorist organization in India.
The Indian government has dismissed Canada's allegations as 'absurd and motivated,' asserting that they are an attempt to divert attention from the presence of Khalistani extremists in Canada who pose a threat to India's sovereignty.
On Wednesday, Sikhs For Justice also circulated a poster depicting Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Patnaik with a target symbol, labeling him as 'the new face of India’s Hindutva terror in Canada,' according to reports.
