Audiowned Italian bike maker, Ducati, has announced a recall for the Panigale V4 and the Streetfighter V4 in India, as per a report by Autocar India and Motorradonline.de. This is part of a wider global recall for the motorcycles. A total of 393 units of the two motorcycles are affected as part of this recall, manufactured between 20182024 (Panigale V4) and 20182025 (Streetfighter V4).
The recall is owing to a defective rear axle with the singlesided swingarm of the motorcycles. The recall dates back to an incident in 2023, when the rear axle broke while a motorcycle was running. While the wheel itself did not detach from the motorcycle, it is a worrying incident. Ducati will inspect the rear axles and change them if necessary.
While the actual reason for the incident that occurred in 2023 has not been pinpointed, it could be due to various reasons. According to NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) documents in the US, various reasons could have led to axle failure, such as mileage, vehicle condition, and incorrect torque to the rear axle bolt during wheel or chain adjustments.
As per the report, around 10,000 units in the US are affected, accross the Panigale and Streetfighter V4(S) as well as the Panigale V4 R and Superleggera V4. In Germany, almost 7,000 units are affected, while there are reports from other places as well, such as Canada and other international markets.
The Ducati Panigale V4 is the company’s fullyfaired flagship that is powered by a 1103 cc, liquidcooled V4 engine that makes 213 bhp and 121 Nm of peak torque. The Ducati Streetfighter V4 is a street naked based on the Panigale, and is powered by the same engine, but is slightly tamed down to make 205 bhp and 123 Nm of peak torque. Both motorcycles come with a sixspeed gearbox with a bi directional quickshifter.
The two motorcycles are also equipped with a ton of electronic aids such as wheelie control, traction control, rider modes, and a host of other features. The Ducati Panigale V4 costs Rs 29,99 lakh and the Streetfighter V4 costs Rs 24.62 lakh onwards, both exshowroom.
