We are talking about none other than Kandala Venkata Pushpavalli Tayaru better known to film audiences as Pushpavalli. She was one of the celebrated actresses of the 1940s and 50s and the mother of Bollywood legend Rekha. Born in 1926 in Andhra Pradesh Pushpavalli always had a special place for cinema. She started at 12 when she essayed the role of Sita in Sampoorna Ramayanam (1936) a film that earned her a fee of Rs 300 which back then was a huge amount. Interestingly Pushpavallis remuneration even surpassed her male leads earnings. Over the years Pushpavallis career gained momentum and she climbed the ladder of success. While her professional life was flourishing her personal life was going through a tough phase. Pushpavalli and Gemini Ganesans Relationship Pushpavalli married lawyer IV Rangachari at a young age and had two children but the marriage soon fell apart. During the making of Miss Malini she met actor Gemini Ganesan. Already married and a father of six Ganesan fell in love with Pushpavalli and the two started a relationship. Though the two never got married they shared two daughters — Rekha and Radha. Her eldest daughter was Rekha who went on to become a Bollywood superstar and her younger daughter Radha made heads turn in South cinema. Pushpavalli passed away in 1991.
