A social media user’s personal account has struck a chord online after he revealed how his father’s week-long complaint of “acidity” was actually a heart attack that went unnoticed. What began as mild chest discomfort and indigestion turned into a life-threatening condition that was only detected because of a last-minute ECG test. The man’s post is now being widely shared as a reminder that symptoms like acidity, chest pain, or unexplained body discomfort should not be ignored, as they can sometimes mask serious heart-related problems.

Symptoms mistaken for acidity

According to the user, his father had been complaining of acidity for nearly a week. He attributed the discomfort to tea or indigestion, even after experiencing irregular bowel movements and chest inflammation. Despite family members suggesting medical tests, he avoided them, assuming it was a recurring health issue.

Sudden escalation

On September 20, when the pain became severe, he finally agreed to undergo a sonography. The results appeared normal, reinforcing the belief that it was just acidity. However, at his son’s insistence, an ECG was also conducted. The test revealed a critical condition, and doctors immediately advised hospitalisation.

At the hospital, doctors confirmed that the man had suffered a myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, almost 24 hours earlier. Further angiography showed a complete blockage in one artery. An urgent angioplasty was performed, which prevented major damage.

A narrow escape

The family described the experience as shocking, especially since the patient had been carrying on with daily activities, even driving himself to the lab. The son expressed guilt for overlooking the symptoms but credited timely testing and medical intervention for saving his father’s life.

The user emphasised that chest discomfort, acidity, or unusual pain should never be taken lightly. “Please, please don’t take such signs casually,” he wrote, stressing the importance of routine check-ups like ECGs, even when symptoms seem minor.

The story highlights how heart attack symptoms can often be mistaken for less serious issues such as acidity or gas. Doctors advise that immediate medical attention should be sought if someone experiences persistent chest pain, burning sensation, or discomfort spreading to the arms, back, or neck.
