New Delhi. The strategic defense agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is considered a major development in the field of international politics. This agreement not only gives a new strength to the mutual relations between these two countries, but its far -reaching effects will be felt from the Middle East to South Asia. If any one country is attacked under this strategic partnership, then another country will stand shoulder to shoulder in protecting it.

Pakistan’s strategic compulsion

The need for this defense agreement for Pakistan is absolutely clear. The ‘Operation Sindoor’ launched by India after the Pahalgam terror attack of April 2025 had exposed Pakistan’s security system. Pakistan’s condition was crushed by the Indian Army’s fast action and the BrahMos missiles. In such a situation, Pakistan was looking for a colleague who could support him for its defense.

Saudi Arabia has already been providing financial assistance to Pakistan and the two military relations have been historically strong. In such a situation, it was a natural strategic step for Pakistan to make a defense agreement with Saudi Arabia. This agreement gives Pakistan a type of ‘backup security shield’ against India.

Saudi Arabia’s ‘compulsion’ or strategic thinking?

Now the question is, why Saudi Arabia, who is oil -rich and called the old partner of America, was ready for this agreement? The answer to this question is hidden in the current global and regional developments. In fact, Saudi Arabia is no longer able to trust America’s security guarantee. The US is constantly pressurizing Saudi to establish a normal relationship with Israel.

Israel’s attack on Hamas leaders in Doha, the capital of Qatar, was a serious warning for Saudi. Even though there is no direct attack on Saudi Arabia, the incident indicates that Israel may run its military strategies regardless of regional boundaries. At the same time, the fight for Shia-Suni tension and regional domination between Iran and Saudi Arabia has been going on for decades.

Saudi Arabia knows that Pakistan is the only Islamic country with nuclear weapons. In such a situation, the Saudi is also achieving an indirect ‘nuclear deiterance’ through this deal. If he is ever threatened by Israel, Pakistan can increase his military strength.
