India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has officially announced massive price reductions across its entire lineup following the recent cut in Goods and Services Tax (GST). The company confirmed that customers will receive the full benefit of lower GST rates, which will come into effect from September 22, 2025.

This announcement comes after rival automakers including Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra already revealed their revised price lists. Buyers had been eagerly waiting for Maruti’s updated rates, and the company finally made the declaration on September 18, 2025.

S-Presso Now Starts at Just ₹3.49 Lakh

One of the biggest beneficiaries of the price revision is Maruti’s compact hatchback S-Presso. Its ex-showroom price has been slashed by up to ₹1,29,600, making it more affordable than ever. The new starting price now stands at ₹3,49,900.

S-Presso is already popular in smaller cities and towns due to its low cost and SUV-like stance, and this new price point is expected to boost sales further during the festive season.

WagonR Sees a Price Drop of ₹79,600

Another top-seller from Maruti, the WagonR, has become cheaper by as much as ₹79,600. The updated starting ex-showroom price is ₹4,98,900. Known for its practicality and high demand across both metros and tier-2 cities, WagonR is one of Maruti’s strongest performers. Experts believe the revised pricing will further strengthen its market position.

Swift Gets a Price Cut of ₹84,600

The iconic Maruti Swift, a long-time customer favorite, has also received a significant price drop. The hatchback is now cheaper by up to ₹84,600, bringing its new starting ex-showroom price down to ₹5,78,900.

Similarly, the Ignis has seen a reduction of ₹71,300, and its base price now begins at ₹5,35,100. These adjustments make Maruti’s hatchback range even more competitive in the compact car segment.

Baleno and Fronx Also Become Cheaper

Maruti’s premium hatchback Baleno has received a price reduction of ₹86,100, lowering its base ex-showroom price to ₹5,98,900. Meanwhile, the Fronx, which caters to buyers looking for a sportier crossover-style hatchback, has seen a major price drop of up to ₹1,12,600. Its new entry price is ₹6,84,900.

These substantial cuts are expected to attract both first-time buyers and those considering an upgrade.

Sales Expected to Surge from September 22

Speaking on the development, Maruti Suzuki’s Executive Officer and Company Secretary Sanjeev Grover confirmed that the company is fully passing on the GST benefit to customers.

Industry analysts predict that the revised prices will lead to a sharp jump in demand for Maruti cars starting September 22, when the new GST framework officially takes effect. The timing also coincides with India’s festive season, which traditionally drives higher automobile sales.

GST Restructuring: A Boost for the Auto Industry

The GST Council recently streamlined the tax structure by reducing the slabs from four to two. The earlier 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% categories have now been consolidated into just 5% and 18%, with a special 40% slab for tobacco, cigarettes, and luxury products.

This move has made several mass-market cars cheaper, giving automakers an opportunity to revive sales in a highly competitive market.

On-Road Price Will Still Be Higher

While ex-showroom prices have dropped significantly, customers should note that the final on-road price will still be higher once additional charges such as road tax, registration fees, and insurance are included. Even so, the revised rates will bring considerable savings compared to earlier pricing.

Key Models and Price Reductions

  • S-Presso – up to ₹1,29,600 cheaper, now starts at ₹3,49,900

  • WagonR – up to ₹79,600 cheaper, now starts at ₹4,98,900

  • Swift – up to ₹84,600 cheaper, now starts at ₹5,78,900

Conclusion

Maruti Suzuki’s decision to reduce prices across its portfolio following the GST cut is being hailed as a customer-friendly move. With festive demand around the corner, these attractive price points are likely to give India’s auto industry a strong push. Buyers now have an excellent opportunity to purchase some of Maruti’s best-selling models at more affordable rates, ensuring that the benefits of tax reforms are passed directly to consumers.
