Actor-turned-MP Kangana Ranaut is once again facing backlash for highlighting how her restaurant, too, has incurred losses, while meeting flood-hit people of Himachal Pradesh. Kangana, who is the BJP MP from Himachal’s Mandi, insisted that people should sympathise with her as well since she’s a single woman earning from her hard work.

Kangana’s insensitive remarks during visit to flood victims

“My home is in Manali, and my restaurant is also here. Yesterday, my restaurant did a business of only Rs 50, while I have to pay a monthly salary of Rs 15 lakh. Imagine what I must be going through.”

Kangana’s carcade was met with slogans of “Go back Kangana, you are late,” as soon as she reached Patlikuhal and videos of locals protesting have been making rounds on social media.

Meanwhile, Kangana choked up during the interactions and added, “I am also a single woman, living as a single woman in society. Please understand my grief as well. Don't think of me as the Queen of England. I am a woman who earns and lives by my own hard work.”

The remarks have triggered backlash online for being insensitive to the people of her constituency who are dealing with the aftermath of massive landslides, floods, and large-scale damage to homes and bridges. The Manali-based restaurant in question had opened early this year. Named The Mountain Story, Kangana had promoted it as a place that’d serve authentic Himachali cuisine.

Kangana Ranaut’s last visit to the flood-affected Seraj region of Mandi in July was also hit with controversies as she ended up insisting that she was helpless when victims questioned her about financial aid. Moreover, Kangana made a candid admission during a conversation with spiritual guru Atman in Ravi (AIR), and said that she is not enjoying politics.

“Somebody’s naali is broken, and I’m like- I’m an MP, and these people are coming to me with panchayat-level problems,” she shared, adding that she was not prepared for this life.

“I like luxury. I want a big house, a nice car, and diamonds. I want to look good. That’s the kind of life I’ve lived,” she said.
