After more than a week of action-packed cricket the Super 4 line-up in the Asia Cup 2025 is finally complete. The Super 4 stages will get underway on Saturday (September 20) with Group B opponents Sri Lanka taking on Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Group A opponents India and Pakistan will face off in game number two of the Super 4 stage in Dubai on Sunday (September 21). It will be a replay of September 14’s explosive encounter marred by ‘Handshake row’ when Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav and his team refused to shake hands of Pakistan cricketers before and after the clash. Sri Lanka are the champions of the Asia Cup when it was last played in the T20 format back in 2021. In the subsequent edition in 2023 when it was played in the ODI format it was Team India under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma who emerged victorious. Charith Asalanka’s side are moving into the Super 4 with an all-win record capped off with a six-wicket triumph over T20 World Cup 2024 semifinalists Afghanistan on Thursday. However they suffered a big blow with all-rounder Dunith Wellalage returning home on Friday after the shocking death of his father in middle of the match against Afghans. Like Sri Lanka India will also in all likelihood have an all-win record heading into the Super 4 as their last match is against minnows Oman. They hammered hosts UAE by nine wickets after bundling them out for only 57 and then posted an equally impressive seven-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan. Salman Ali Agha’s side had to take the longer route to head into the Super 4. They were on the verge of boycotting their last match against UAE on Wednesday night but thought otherwise in a game which began one hour late. Pakistan hammered UAE by 41 runs to book their place in Super 4 after their earlier win over Oman. Bangladesh had a nervous wait on Thursday night. They posted an impressive nine-run win over Afghanistan to strengthen their claim for a Super 4 berth. But if Afghanistan had defeated Sri Lanka in the last match then they would have gone through with the Lankans. As it turns out Lankans did Bangladesh a massive favour by hammering Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi to help them qualify.
