Pakistan avoids pre-match Press meet ahead of Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash amid handshake row

New Delhi: The Pakistan team management has chosen not to be part of any media interactions ahead of their Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash against India. Pakistan have once again cancelled pre match presser conference in order to avoid questions on Pycroft appointment and no handshake controversy a tournament source said. Despite the PCBs repeated requests to remove Andy Pycroft from the roster the International Cricket Council (ICC) has once again decided to assign Pycroft to officiate the highly-anticipated India-Pakistan Asia Cup Super 4s match on Sunday. Andy Pycroft is the match referee for Indo-Pak game a tournament source told PTI. The complete list of match officials for the game on Sunday has not yet been made released. Richie Richardson former West Indies captain is another match referee in the tournament. Pycroft was the match referee in the previous India vs Pakistan clash Pycroft was the match referee in the previous India vs Pakistan encounter in the Asia Cup 2025 when Suryakumar and team deliberately avoided shaking hands with the Pakistan team. The Zimbabwean official became the focus of controversy after India captain Suryakumar Yadav didnt shake hands with Salman Agha at the toss. Following that the Pakistans team wrote two email to the ICC first to Pycrofts exclusion from the tournament and then asking the global body to exclude him from their matches. The ICC dismissed PCBs allegations that Pycroft had breached the Spirit of the Game code stating that he was simply relaying information received from the designated Venue Manager of the Asian Cricket Council. With only a few minutes until the start of the match he could only deliver the message. Later ICC organized a meeting between Pycroft and the Pakistan team management including skipper Salman Ali Agha head coach Mike Hesson and manager Naveed Akram Cheema during which he expressed that he regretted the miscommunication. ICC pointed out Pycroft never apologised The ICC then in another e-mail pointed out that Pycroft never apologised but only regretted the miscommunication and also accused PCB of violating protocols related to Players And Match Officials Area (PMOA) which the latter denied. In another email the ICC stated that Pycroft never expressed apologies but only regretted the miscommunication. The ICC also accused PCB of breaking rules pertaining to the Players And Match Officials Area (PMOA) which the latter denied. Naming Pycroft for another Indo-Pak clash signals that the ICC is standing firm on its decision as removing the former Zimbabwe Test player could have set a wrong example.
