Fresh stone-baked pizza tastes miles better than the rest, but mini wood-fired ovens also cost hundreds to buy. So, a simple home-cooked recipe promises to make delicious pizza without any fancy equipment, and you don't even need a regular home oven.
The chef behind it assures the "mouthwatering and effortless" recipe is a "game changer" for those who want a quick and delicious pizza. All you need is a few key ingredients and some staple cooking equipment, and it can be ready in 10 minutes. The secret is to cook the pizza dough in a pan on the hob.
Gemma Stafford at Gemma's Bigger Bolder Baking explained: "Pan-fried pizza is a mouthwatering and effortless option if you don't have an oven or prefer not to use it."
She added: "Simple steps and minimal equipment make this recipe easy for anyone to follow. Prepare the no-knead crust, then you can have a hot, cheesey, and crispy pizza in under 10 minutes."
The method may sound unorthodox, but it makes a "crispy, bubbly crust", and you can use any pizza dough and toppings, so you could spice things up with pepperoni, or cause controversy with ham and pineapple.
You will need a 10 to 12-inch shallow pan, ideally nonstick and with a lid. Warm up the pan on a low to medium heat, then lay the pizza dough inside, and place on the lid.
Gemma recommends cooking it for three to four minutes "until the crust bubbles and rises up", and it goes light brown. Then flip it over and cook the other side for two to three minutes, leaving the lid off.
Finally, flip it back over to the original side, add your tomato base, cheese, and toppings, and turn off the heat. The residual heat will melt the cheese and heat up the toppings, just make sure you replace the lid for about five minutes.
