In a heartbreaking incident on Sunday, an eight-year-old girl was killed by a leopard in a village located in the Badwani district of Madhya Pradesh, as reported by local officials. The attack occurred in Kirtafalia village, approximately 37 kilometers from the district headquarters in the Rajpur subdivision.
According to the official, the leopard captured the girl while she was in the fields with her mother. Upon noticing the attack, her mother and other laborers working nearby raised an alarm and attempted to chase the leopard. However, the animal fled into the forest, leaving the severely injured girl behind.
Villagers rushed the girl to a community health center, but unfortunately, the doctors declared her dead upon arrival. The deceased has been identified as Geeta, and the block medical officer, Devendra Romde, stated that the leopard attacked her neck from both sides, leading to her tragic death.
Ashish Bansod, the divisional forest officer, mentioned that traps and camera equipment are being set up in the area. He also indicated that forest department patrol teams have been instructed to maintain constant surveillance.
Bansod confirmed that they have located the leopard and are actively working to capture it. He noted that this leopard had previously killed a goat and that this marks the second fatality due to leopard attacks in the area, with three incidents occurring in the last 35 days.
